The travel radius displayed on your profile informs students about the distance you are willing to travel for in-person lessons. Your radius is a circle of distance around the zip code indicated on your public profile that is used as an indicator of the general area within which you are willing to travel to hold lessons. This helps Wyzant identify which new in-person student requests to notify tutors about, and also helps give potential students an idea about which tutors are willing to travel to their location.
Tutors may still be willing to travel further than the default radius on their profile or agree to a meeting location between themselves and their students, and this decision is at the tutors' discretion. Travel distance is measured "as the crow flies."
Your hourly rate should take into account any expenses you might incur while traveling inside your travel radius for lessons, including fuel expenses.
Tutors are not permitted to charge additional fees for any travel within the radius presented on their profile. Also, please note that tutors are not permitted at any time to charge per mile, or per minutes of travel.
The travel radius does not take into account any man-made or natural obstacles that may prolong travel. Before deciding on a travel radius, we recommend you select Show Travel Radius on the map to make sure that every location within your travel radius is relatively easy for you to reach.
If a student who retains your services through the Wyzant site resides outside of your travel radius and you agree to work with that student, you may compensate for the extra travel by increasing your hourly rate for that student. All costs associated with tutoring students who retain you through Wyzant must go through the site, and rate change increases must be agreed upon by a student before the lesson begins.
Potential students outside your travel radius may find and contact you. If you’re unwilling to travel to a student for lessons, simply inform the student that they are outside of your travel radius.
